I can see where you are coming from, I have fads and some of the fads become long term hobbies, but when you’re just starting out sometime your don’t want to spend a fortune on equipment. The Bank Boss Chair is the top of the range fishing chair form the TV celebrity fisherman Matt Hayes company TF Gear (Total Fishing Gear)

In terms of specialist fishing chair it ticks all of the boxes. It has a fully adjustable back rest so you can get that comfy position for spending hours lazing on the fishing banks, and many users of this chair have commented on how comfortable this chair really is. Part of how comfortableness can probably be credited it its totally independent legs that can be adjusted to suit any terrain or sloping bank to within reason. The legs also have large mud feet on the base of them preventing the feet from sinking in to muddy banks.

Back on to ticking the boxes, the back rest is also adjustable so that you can get the right angle. The main seating area of this chair are also hevily padded, so as I mentioned above users of this chair really are very happy with the comfortableness of it. As if having a comfortable chair to sit and fish from all day wasn’t good enough there are a number of attachments and add-ons available, and this means that you can use rod rests, bite alarms and feeder arms when you are fishing from a concrete or other solid surface. It really does get rid of the need for hammering bank sticks in to the ground and scaring fish off in the first place. In terms of the attachments you can get there are:

The one negative that people have commented on with this chair is the weight of it. Personally I don’t think that this is such an issue, if you want a lighter chair you have to be prepared to pay for and with the bargain price of the TF Gear Bank Boss Chair you can hardly be quibbling over a few grams!

There are numerous fishing chairs available on the market and the style that you go for will largely be dictated by the type of fishing you do. This article will discuss the chairs available to the novice and roving angler. Specialist fishing chairs are cover a vast range and have been discussed in the specialist fishing chair  article.

• Novice Angler
  If you’re new to the sport you may just be looking for a simple fold out chair that does the job and is low cost.
• Roving Angler
  If you’re a roving sort of angler you may look for a lightweight chair that has a minimum of fuss – it just need to be lightweight, sturdy and reliable.
• Match Angler
  If you’re a match angler the likelihood is that you will be sitting on your tackle box, it is therefore a whole new area of discussion that’ outside the scope of this website to discuss the sorts of fishing tackle boxes available to the match angler.

New to angling? This may be your first chair.

For the novice angler there is a limited range of fishing chairs available, many of the chairs from the camping market will be suitable for use. There is the standard fold out chair based on the traditional 1970’s type deckchair that quite simply appears to fold in half. There’s the newer equivalent of this where the chair folds in on it’s self and then there’s the well loved director style chairs. I would recommend the second type of chair that folds in on it’s self – it folds down very compactly, usually comes with a bag and is now very cheap to get hold of.

Lightweigt and compact - ideal for roving with.

There is a slightly wider range of fishing chairs available to the roving angler. Because the roving angler is past the ‘novice’ stage of the sport, they are more likely to be willing to spend a little bit more on a chair. Manufacturers  are quick to latch on to this and hence there is a wider range available. There is the standard fold in half chair, but there are also the stool type chairs and the backpack/rucksack type chairs. All of these chairs focus on transportability in terms of their size and weight. I wouldn’t be so brave to recommend a chair to the roving angler – the sorts of fishing roving anglers do is vast and to recommend one chair would be almost impossible and doing them a disservice.

With specialist fishing chairs  now being well established, products are now beginning to move up to the next level. Korum a UK based angling company have come up with the accessory chair. These guys invest serious time, energy and money in to the design and development of the products. Korum’s strap line is ‘Tacticle Angling Products’ and I think that describes them very well.

So what is the Accessory chair?

In essence the Accessory Chair is a stand alone chair that functions as an excellent specialist fishing chair in its own right. It has a number of features that make it stand out from the crowd, one such feature is its vertical leg system. Where most the legs of most chairs are at an angle greater the 90o to the seat base, the Accessory Chair legs are a 90o to the seat base i.e vertical. So what I hear you say, well this actually means that this chair has a significantly reduced foot prints allowing it to be used in smaller swims. It also means that you are not likely to trip over the legs. But… here is it’s defining feature, the Accessory fishing chair has a range of addons that can effectively be bolted to it.

What sort of addons?
I’ve mentioned below a small number of the accessories available:

• A telescopic feeder arm (form of rod rest)
• A tripod feeder arm.
• A spacer arm – this is essentially like you traditional bank stick – it has a thread at the top of it which will take all of the accessories that will fit a bank stick.
• A universal arm – same as above.
• A butt rest with arm
• A brolly arm
• A twin rod buzz bar
• A side tray – really useful for all sorts of bits and pieces and bait preparation.
• You can even get a kit that will temporary convert the chair in to a trolley so you can get all your kit to the swim in comfort.

At this point you may be asking why is that useful, well, how many times have you been fishing from a concrete or solid standing? How many times has the ground been that baked in the middle of summer that you can’t get a rod rest or umbrella in the ground? The Accessory Chair removes all of these issues because all of the accessories mount to the chair and therefore do not have to be put in the ground at all. Simple but ingenious. Of all of the fishing chair markets the specialist anglers marketplace is the broadest. They are the hardcore fishermen (and fisherwoman) that are highly passionate and enthusiastic about their sport. They will camp out for nights, travel thousands of miles and endure treacherous weather for that once in a lifetime fish. These are the people that are willing to part with their cash to get the best fishing chairs that they can afford. The willingness of these anglers to spend money on their sport has driven traditional fishing manufacturers to develop sophisticated fishing chairs that suit a range of budgets and fishing styles. Fishing Chair Design

There are a wide range of fishing chairs available on the market. The sort of fishing chair you will be largely dictated by the type of fishing you do.  (see choosing the right fishing chair post) This site aims to cover from the simple fold out ‘camping style’ fishing chairs to the more sophisticated carp and specialist fishing chairs. Chairs designed for fishing purposes have many criteria to satisfy other than being comfy. When you are looking to get a new or replacement fishing chair you should be keep a look out for certain features.
 

Fishing Chair Features

• Lightweight
  Your going to have to carry or wheel your fishing chair to where you want to fish, you’re ideally looking for a chair with an aluminium frame that will keep the weight down.
• Exposure resistant.
  You don’t want your fishing chair corroding, going mouldy or seizing up. Similarly to the above ‘lightweight’ criteria you’ll be looking for an aluminium frame that’s either anodised or powder coated, both of these processes will stop the frame from oxidising. The actually seating fabric will need to be made from a water resistant fabric. If you have a chair with padding, the water resistant outer fabric will prevent it from getting wet.
• Have adjustable legs
  We all know there’s nothing more frustrating that a wobbly chair (and I doubt you’ll have a supply of beer mats). Make sure that the fishing chair you buy has four adjustable legs that also have a good range of adjustment.
• Broad feet or ‘mud feet’
  This leads on from the ‘adjustable legs’ point. Unless you have large broad swivelling feet it’s going to make a lot of difference if your legs are adjustable or not. You’re going to sink! Bad news – get the broadest feet you can find.
• Have an adjustable seating position
  If you’re going for a carp or specialist type fishing chair make sure that it has an adjustable back. This coupled with adjustable legs will give you an almost infinite range of seating postions.
• Good padding
  A lot of the specialist fishing chairs will have padding, make sure that it’s durable and thick – you’ll be spending a lot of time sat in it.
• Compact
  Regardless of the type of angling you do, your fishing chair will need to be small enough to transport to where you want to fish and to pack in your car.
